Jerk chicken was amazing. Rice and peas were amazing. Salmon was amazing. I couldn't have asked for anything better. Beef patties were amazing. Don't have anything to say bad about this place. The ladies who I talked to were nice And answered all of my questions . I would for sure be back.
Goat plate Jerk chicken Both w. Beans and rice Steamed/stewed chopped veggies Plantains The main proteins were delicious. I definitely wanted a larger portion of goat. Beans and rice also very good. The veggies weren't my thing but my buddy mixed his w. The rice and enjoyed it. The plantains were room temp and didn't have a grease factor. I really enjoy those hit and grease. They have daily specials and there was a table of 5 which all ordered that dish. It was the ribs and the portion looked large and the ribs looked yummy. But I don't regret my order, just thinking that might be a good way to go. We walked in. We were greeted. Took a seat. Given menus. Ordered within 5 minutes and had our food within 10. The service was prompt but relaxed. While we had to ask for more water there was no side hustling. This is a small establishment that was being run by two ladies. Don't expect high brow and go be pleased. All-in-all a good visit.
I've been telling all my friends to try the coconut shrimp and jerk pork. This is what they had to say.. My first couple bites are screaming good!!!! Mmm mmm good!!
Stopped in for lunch and food was delicious. Service is slow and the tables are really crammed in here so it is cozy! Curried goat - great warm flavor and spice. Comes with plenty of very flavorful rice, veggies, and plantains.
Ordered both the mini beef patty and regular beef patty to see the difference. Both were good but I think I prefer the regular beef patty bc the crust felt flakier since it was bigger compared to the mini. But the mini were perfect bite sizes. Either way you can't go wrong. The filling was so yummy.
This is MY FAVORITE Jamaican restaurant in the Bay Area. So far I've had their jerk salmon, jerk chicken, oxtails, mini patties and of course the rice & peas and cabbage. My least favorite of what I tried was the oxtails. It didn't have my preferred robust flavor profile and it was very slightly sweet. I prefer no sweetness at all. Rice & peas and cabbage were good but nothing special to me. Buuuuuut let me tell you something that salmon cooked to perfection every time, & it should be a shame how good them mini patties are. Don't get me started on their in house jerk sauce. The jerk sauce has a tang to it and I believe it's made with loads of ginger and it's the star of the show. I really could put that on anything and make it burst with flavor. Sometimes I drive an hour plus just to get a fix of their food.
Been wanting to try this for many years but, for whatever reason, never walked through those doors. When I think of the Caribbean, three things come to mind: a. going on a cruise in the '70's - yes, that old b. this song - (https://youtu.be/uxX2gA18grk?si=cLXBAFKhNsIWfWyx ) c. that ride in Disneyland Over the past couple of years, the Japanese restaurant a few doors over became a rotation lunch spot for our post Costco meal. I finally decided to order some food for dinner that night and a future meal or two. I walked in at 11:15 am on a Thursday and placed my order. Dalia, the cashier and possibly partner here, took my order and told me it'd be ready in about 25 minutes. There were a couple of guys waiting at a table for their dine-in meal. I placed my order with Dalia who was efficient, juggling between helping me and facing food delivery drivers there to pick up orders. After placing my order, she told me to come back in 25 minutes to pick it up. Having lunch a few doors over, I looked at my watch and saw a short line and waited my turn. She recognized me and confirmed my name before handing me my order. Later that evening, I opened my box of the jerk chicken n oxtail combo (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=DaZA_9pbggKdCnvvDyOQ3g) which came with rice and beans, fried plantains, and sauteed vegetables. The chicken is grilled with jerk sauce and the ox tail is slow cooked with carrots, thyme, and scallion. I chose this as an opportunity to try more menu items as i would normally just order the ox tails. The jerk chicken was fork tender and seasoned well though, for me, not my favorite flavor wise as it was on the dry side. There were two pieces of this, a drumstick and a thigh. The ox tail was very tender too as there were two medium pieces where the meat just slid off the bones. A few days later, I learned the error of my ways when I reheated the other half of my meal. A. The chicken was NOT dry after baking in the oven and b. There was plenty of sauce for the ox tail. Though the rice and beans were tasty, I would enjoy the ox tail more with white rice to better highlight the sauce flavors. I also ordered the Thursday special, pineapple barbecued ribs (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=y3oH-zBjKqrCN9xZMfZMPw) which came with mac 'n cheese, sauteed vegetables, and cornbread. Having this a couple days later after reheating, I really enjoyed this. There were four ribs so this also became two meals given the generous portions of the sides and the cornbread too. The vegetables, a mix of cabbage and carrots in a pickled sauce, was a nice contrast to the sweet ribs where the meat again was fork tender. The cornbread was okay and didn't really stand out. Thank you, Flavas, for providing me two orders that became four satisfying meals during the week. Thank you, Dalia, for appreciating my sense of humor. I will likely get a straight order of ox tails on my next visit. Yes, they are pretty darn good.
The food is tasty. The portions provided are reasonable and fairly priced. Frankly, I can't think of any other restaurant on the peninsula to compare it to, but fortunately, Flavas gets the job done for me every time without failure. I've dined here probably 20+ times and have even referred friends, coworkers, and partners. My go to is the jerk chicken. Probably the best I've had in California, from Los Angeles to NorCal. They also sell side dishes like macaroni & cheese and collard greens among others. Parking is fairly easy. There's a Wells Fargo across the street that you can park at for free if you're picking up to go. There's also metered parking about a minute or two away for dining in. Don't go in expecting service with a smile. You will be smiling as you eat your meal. Would recommend.
This small mom and pop restaurant is located in the downtown area of SSF. There were metered parking spots right outside of the restaurant. We were greeted by a friendly waitress upon entering the restaurant. We ordered the jerk pork and jerk salmon combo, jerk chicken and oxtail combo, and a side of plantains. We also ordered the pineapple upside down cake and rum raisin ice cream for dessert. As for beverages, we ordered the pineapple ginger and mango carrot. The jerk pork and jerk chicken were very flavorful and tender. The jerk salmon was pretty moist. The oxtail was one of the best that we ever had. The meat was very tender and tasty. The two bottled beverages were from Jamaica and they were not very sweet. They were both refreshing. The desserts were delicious. The pineapple upside down cake was kind of warm when it got to our table. It wasn't too sweet, which we liked. The rum raisin ice cream had caramel sauce on top. We can actually taste the rum, which we really liked. We enjoyed all the food that ordered, and we received good service.
